THE FRANK ZAPPA ROXY SG

We are pleased to offer the Gibson Frank Zappa “Roxy” SG, a faithful recreation of one of the most distinctive guitars in rock history. Released in 2013 as a limited edition of just 400 instruments, the model was created in close cooperation with the Zappa Family Trust and based on the heavily modified SG used by Frank Zappa during the legendary Roxy Theatre performances immortalised on Roxy & Elsewhere.

HISTORY

Frank Zappa's original SG became one of his most recognisable instruments during the early 1970s, particularly through his performances at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood with The Mothers. The guitar's distinctive combination of modified electronics, humbuckers and Maestro-style vibrato became an important part of Zappa's extraordinarily versatile sound.

Gibson recreated the instrument with an early-'60s style slim neck, mahogany construction, twin humbuckers, coil-splitting and phase switching, together with the distinctive Maestro-style Vibrola and Lyre tailpiece. The result is a remarkably versatile SG that captures many of the unusual features of Zappa's original.
