The Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s is a key pillar of Gibson's Original Collection, which officially launched in May 2019. The collection was introduced under new management to strip away modern experimental features (like robot tuners, coil-splitting, and wide neck profiles) and return to the historically accurate, "Golden Era" specifications that established the brand's legacy. This specific model serves as a direct tribute to the legendary 1958–1960 single-cutaway sunburst Les Pauls. It replicates the foundational formula that defined early rock, blues, and jazz tones before production shifted to the SG body style in 1961. Unlike many modern iterations that use chambering or "9-hole" weight relief to lighten the guitar, this model features a completely solid, non-weight-relieved mahogany back. The neck is carved into a notably thick, rounded profile modeled after original 1950s instruments, making it chunkier than its '60s SlimTaper counterpart.
