Comments:
The original 1955 Gretsch 6120 was co-designed alongside legendary guitarist Chet Atkins and served as a foundational instrument for early rockabilly, country, and rock 'n' roll. The "W" in G6120W stands for Western. This Custom version explicitly celebrates the earliest 1955 production aesthetic, heavily embellished with cowboy motifs to appeal to the country music market of the mid-1950s. Pre-2003 "W” models like this 1998 one are highly collectible and distinct for utilizing slightly different build frameworks, such as a bound ebony fingerboard rather than rosewood on some configurations. Notable decorative elements unique to this model include a capital "G" brand burned or etched directly into the top wood of the body, a horseshoe inlay on the headstock, and fretboard markers featuring cacti, fences, and steer heads.
